A. J. Dorr, with
gratitude for all the support he has
received in the past, announces his bid for
re-election in the March 2008 Republican
Primary to the office of Constable Precinct
1. When
he took office one of his priorities was to
operate an efficient and effective
department. Dorr feels this has been
accomplished by consistently serving an
average of 1200 civil writs, citations and
subpoenas each month and 150 Class C
criminal warrants.

Dorr’s staff
consists of 22 officers; four are former
police chiefs and one is a former constable.
Thirteen of these officers have Master Peace
Officer Certificates and two have Advanced
Peace Officers Certificates. A Master is the
highest any certified peace office can
achieve and it is obtained through years of
service and the number of hours of law
enforcements courses taken. Every two years,
each deputy constable has to have the
regular 40 hours of criminal training that
is required of all police officers plus an
additional 20 hours of civil training. Dorr
feels that his department is one that the
citizens of Precinct One can have pride and
confidence in and call on with any problem.
Another of Dorr’s priorities was to be active
and give back to the community that he
serves. He has accomplished this by serving
as Director and current President of the
Fort Bend County Fair, Director and 2-time
President of the Needville Youth Fair, and
as Director of the Houston Livestock Show &
Rodeo. He is a member of the Needville and
the Rosenberg-Richmond Chambers of Commerce
and American Legion Post #350. Dorr is an
Honorary Chapter Member of the Needville FFA.
He is also active in the Senior Citizens
Organization, Immanuel United Church of
Christ, and several other charitable
organizations.
After graduating from Needville High School,
Dorr served four years in the United States
Marine Corps where he was meritoriously
promoted to ranks of Private First Class,
Lance Corporal, Corporal and then Sergeant
in less than three years. After leaving the
Marine Corps he attended Sam Houston State
University and received a Bachelors Degree
in Law Enforcement and Police Science.
He began his career in law enforcement with
the Houston Police department in 1977 where
he obtained a vast amount of knowledge
working in patrol and vice divisions. In
1986, Needville called him back home to
become their Chief of Police where he served
for over ten years until he was elected
Constable of Precinct 1.
Dorr says, "My
office has always had an open door policy to
listen to and meet the needs of the citizens
of not only Precinct 1 but all of Fort Bend
County. I plan to continue efficient and
effective service to the public with the
best-trained and equipped staff possible. I
never forget or fail to appreciate the trust
and support the voters have shown in me
since I first ran for Constable”.
Constable
Dorr and his wife, Sandra, live in
Needville. They have 2 daughters, Andrea and
Alexis: a son, Michael and his wife,
Stephanie: and one grandson, Kelton. They
are members of St. Michaels Catholic Church
& Immanuel United Church of Christ.
